WatchWatch
Asked to respond to the word reality, we hosted a small gathering so that people could watch paint dry. This was a metaphor for how boring life can be and how easy it is to get caught up in our own routine rather than exploring and enjoying new things. A short film by Rick Raby, Lisa Dale, Catherine McConnell and Emma Johnson. With thanks to staff at Stockport College. Soundtrack - Track...

Summer Placements
It’s been a couple of weeks since I finished now, but over the summer I was lucky enough to spend nearly two months doing work placements - a week at Vivid, as part of their Summer Camp programme, and six weeks at Future. Off the back of my FdA going into the second year of a BA course, these were both great opportunities to gain experience in a working environment and learn new skills to...

You can't plan the Future
So, last week I wrote up a plan of things to do over the summer… which changed within two days of writing it. From July to September I’ll be working at Future Design Conultants as an intern! Around the internship, I’m still aiming to do plenty of my own work to keep this blog as fresh and full of new work as possible. In the meantime, watch this space! Edit: I will now also be...

Summer Plan
Well, the show is over and my final year at TMC has come to an end. In September I’ll be joining the BA Graphics course down the road at Stockport College, but until then I have a 3 month gap… and there’s a lot I want to get done! Like every other design student, I’m on the look out for placement and freelance opportunities so if you like what you see then feel free to get...

One phone call and about three hours later, my (sort of) all new Portfolio is up and ready to be looked through. I probably won’t change it for a while now but go and have look before I mess with the damn thing again. Cheers

Work update
I’ve not posted anything for a while, so I thought I’d show a little bit of work which is in progress. I’m currently working on two briefs in college and one other piece which is a personal project. The first is this years student Rose’s awards which I’m still in the research phase of - so no work to show there. The second college project is a soft drink. It’s...

British Library Poster
On Friday our class was set the task of producing a poster for The British Library. We had three hours to condense and format a shedload of information and put into a two colour (Black + 1) poster. After 3 hours I managed to produce two posters that I felt were quite good. Given an extra half an hour of my own time and I’ve improved the title of each poster and, as a result, they are better...

Parker Pens Ad
Last week we did an advertising college and used the afternoon to create ad campign for Parker. The SMP of the campaign was to ‘Express yourself through pen and ink’. I chose to go down the route of using times where we always write rather than word process our words. At the end of the afternoon, and a slight change to the tagline by a classmate, my ad campaign was one of those chosen...

I’ve recently come back off holiday and while I was there I started to listen to Weezer again. One of my favourite songs is Pink Triangle, so when I got back last week I got started on this. As always, here’s a link so you can give it a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgEXny_5pAk Enjoy

A tribute to Crouwel
Over May bank holiday (the one where there wasn’t a royal wedding) me and my girlfriend visited London for the first time. While we were there we decided to go to the Design Museum and take a look at the exhibition honouring Wim Crouwel’s life’s work. It was a brilliant exhibition which really opened my eyes to Crouwel’s work which up until then I hadn’t really looked...

Hard-Fi have only just released there new album, Killer Sounds, so I thought I’d redesign their old one.  I originally did this illustration about a year or so ago when I was looking at a lot of Banksy’s work, so when I stumbled across it again last week I finally came up with a use for it.  This should probably jog some memories for those that don’t remember...

After a short break, I’m back onto the record covers! Now I’ll be honest, I’m not that much of a System of a Down fan, but the occasional song doesn’t hurt. When I was going through songs and albums to redesign, this struck me as a good one because I couldn’t really resist doing something that contrast’s the song but fits at the same time.  For anyone...

The Electric Zebra Lounge
A little break from record covers I’ve been doing… I recently saw a competition to design a logo for The Electric Zebra Lounge. The name sounded interesting enough for me to do it so here’s my entry: The competition closes on September 5th, click here to see the rest of the entries.

Record covers, 3 of …
So my third record cover is the one I’ve wanted to do for longest. “Starlight - Muse” is probably my favourite song by Muse, who are also one of my favourite bands, so you can see why I’ve been wanting to do this for a while.  Although the idea for this cover is rather straightforward and obvious, its a beautiful song and quite atmospheric so I felt that the cover should...

Record covers, 2 of ...
This is the second record cover design I’ve done and this time it’s for the debut album from SBTRKT which is self titled. This album only came out recently and after listening to it just a couple of times the melodies are stuck in my head, so it seemed natural to do a design for it. For this cover I decided to use colours and shapes that I felt suited the music, similar to the way...

This is the first piece in my new project. I’ve chosen to redo the artwork for some song and album covers. I didn’t choose the song/album covers I re-did because they’re the “5 Best Songs EVER!!” or “Top 10 Power Ballads”. I chose them because of what they mean to me and what I’d like to design for. The first cover is for “Night - Benga &...
