1. The end of year show is nearly upon us, for anyone that doesn’t know it will be running from the 13th-15th June at 4 Piccadilly Place.

All of the graphics students were asked to do their own versions of the promo material and then the best would be used. Up until a couple of weeks ago, this was the poster that was due to be used, but unfortunately it clashed with the promo stuff for the photography students solo show.

On the night there will be some very colourful ‘Progression’ posters up which are now being used. No doubt everyone will have their favourite, so I’ll let everyone you decide which one is best.

  2. A couple of months ago I did some work with Cherokee Jack, a Manchester based music producer and remixer. I worked on his branding and also a promo CD which he could send out to record labels etc.

  3. With the end of year show looming, I’ve finally had my stationary printed.I’m really happy with how they’ve turned out and pleasantly surprise with my photography and editing skills.

  4. It’s been a while coming and I’ve finally got around to creating a poster for my Hype typeface. I think I finished the original lowercase typeface at Christmas, but good things come to those who wait right?
Maybe in another 4 months I’ll have finished the typeface proper… Enjoy

  5. A month or so ago Seabrook Associates came in to college to give a talk, before they left they set us a short branding brief. The task was to create an identity for a fictional law firm called Smithers & Co. We were all allowed 30 minutes to draw out some ideas and they were given to them. They then selected four to be worked up on the computer and once again submitted. I was one of the four selected so here is my set of logos.

  6. Over the weekend I designed my letterheads and business cards. At some point they’ll get printed and will form how I approach companies for interviews and placement work.
The designs reflect my interest in modernist typefaces - my logo is made from Akzidenz Grotesk (Germany, 1896) and DINPro (A version based on DIN 1451 - Germany, 1936).

  7. At the moment, the snowboard maker APO are running a design competition for a limited run of 10 snowboards of which the winner will receive one. It sounded like a fun sort project that doesn’t come around very often so I though I would get involved.

FYI - The nasty template was supplied and definitely not mine.

  8. I finished my entry for the Roses Design Awards about 6 weeks ago now and it’s about time I uploaded it, so here it is…

I answered Brief 7 which was to create branding for a museum of trees. As it was a reasonably open brief, I decided to create something that seemed quite real to people and felt as though it existed.

  9. http://rickraby.tumblr.com/portfolio →

One phone call and about three hours later, my (sort of) all new Portfolio is up and ready to be looked through. I probably won’t change it for a while now but go and have look before I mess with the damn thing again. Cheers

  10. It’s coming up to interview season for 3rd year places at various universities and colleges. A portfolio showing a wide variety of skills is important, so over the past couple of days I’ve been producing these visual statements and puns to go in my portfolio as they’re not something that is currently included.
